Non Residential EV Charging Installation Connection

Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure Procedure
Starting May 27, 2024, local electricity distribution companies like Orangeville Hydro Limited will follow a streamlined process for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging connections that will make it easier to set-up new charging stations and support the adoption of electric vehicles in Ontario.
Procedure is applicable to:
- Non-residential customer applications including Level 2 and Level 3 charging stations, such as publicly accessible direct current fast charging stations, workplace charging, charging stations used for commercial EV fleets and charging installations for multi-unit residential or commercial buildings, where the EV chargers are owned or operated by the building owner or a third-party charging provider; and
- The primary purpose of the new or expanded connection must be specific to the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE).
Benefits of Standardizing Installing & Connecting New EV Charging Infrastructure include:
a. Streamlined procedures that all local electricity distribution companies must follow for installing and connecting new EV charging infrastructure including the implementation of standardized forms, timelines, and information requirements which will make it easier for EV charging providers to deploy chargers in all regions of the province.
b. Increased accessibility to public EV charging stations across the province.
c. Changing the province’s electricity infrastructure to support the adoption of electric vehicles in Ontario.
Thinking of EV Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) project?
If you are considering an EVCI project, before you start work or purchase equipment, please:
- Review the details in the Ontario Energy Board’s “Electric Vehicle Charging Connection Procedure” document.
- Complete the “EV Preliminary Consultation Information Request (EVPCIR)” form and submit it to [email protected] with the subject line ‘EV Preliminary Consultation Information Request’.
The completed EV Preliminary Consultation Information Request (EVPCIR) form will assist us in assessing if there is sufficient electricity distribution capacity to connect an EV Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) project in the identified area.
Initial EV Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) projects Responsibilities:
a) EVCI-applicant:
- Review Electric Vehicle Charging Connection Procedure
- Seek preliminary consultation if required by submitting a completed EVPCIR form to Orangeville Hydro.
- If a preliminary consultation is not required, submit a completed Service Request Form to Orangeville Hydro.
b) Distributor:
- Review submitted EVPCIR and deem it complete (if applicable).
- Review EVPCIR and prepare an EVPCR (if applicable).
- Provide EVPCR to the customer for consideration (if applicable).
- Review submitted information and if complete, create an Offer to Connect if there is available capacity.
A detailing listing of the process is provided in the OEBs Electric Vehicle Charging Connection Procedure sections three through eight.
