Lines Supervisor

Orangeville Hydro Limited is a local distribution company that is responsible for distributing electricity to approximately 13,000 homes and businesses within the Town of Orangeville and the Town of Grand Valley. Orangeville Hydro has an opening for the position of Lines Supervisor.

Reporting to the President, this position plays a key role in the technical and financial planning of distribution, station, fleet, and metering assets.  The Lines Supervisor is responsible for maintaining and upgrading Orangeville Hydro’s Distribution system and for the direction, planning, coordination, and supervision of the day-to-day activities for all line staff as well as support contractors.

DUTIES:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Lines Department for the execution of its short- and long-term goals
  • Mentor, build, and maintain a strong team while managing performance
  • Responsible for safety of all operations, line staff, outside parties, and public
  • Monitor system health including inspection reports outage data, power quality data, and feeder loading
  • Supervise, direct, and coordinate the safety and efficient use of time of the line crews and contractors involved in the construction, operations, maintenance, and repairs of all overhead and underground electrical systems
  • Influence and implement Orangeville Hydro’s budgeted projects and maintenance programs
  • Plan and coordinate the safety meetings and ensure that all members of the department are following proper safety procedures
  • Make long-term recommendations to the Engineering Department and CEO for improvements concerning operations, construction, maintenance, and safety
  • Continuously improve the efficiency and productivity of the Lines Staff
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and power restoration of the distribution system
  • Produce written job plan instructions, traffic plans, switching orders, work protection permits, and supporting guarantees
  • Responsible for fleet management such as maintenance scheduling, coordination, recorder keeping, and vehicle specifications and purchasing. Additionally, ensure MTO & CVOR requirements are met
  • Supervisory responsibilities over facility maintenance and stores management including ensuring the appropriate spare material is stocked and ensuring garage, stores, parking lot, and yards are kept in an acceptable state
  • Schedule tree trimming and line cleaning operations and maintain records as per the Distribution Maintenance Program
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and cover-up sticks are maintained
  • Ensure that all necessary personal protective equipment i.e. safety boots, hard hat, reflective arc rated clothing, gloves, hearing protection, etc., are used and are maintained in good condition.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • A journeyperson in an electrical trade with 15 years’ experience, 5 years in a supervisory position
  • 434A Powerline Technician Certificate of Qualification, A or D Licence with Z endorsement in good standing
  • Possess integrity and credibility and a high standard of ethics
  • Experience managing and maintaining team performance and engagement in a unionized environment
  • In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of Regulation 22/04, Electrical Utility Safety Rules, Occupational Heath & Safety Act, and Utility Work Protection Code.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating integrity, creativity and enthusiasm in achieving results directly and through staff work teams
  • Achieve a safe, efficient, and cost-effective supply of reliable electrical energy to customers
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, maps, drawings, and procedure manuals
  • Extensive knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in electrical distribution, construction, inspection, operations, testing and maintenance
  • Ability to supervise, train, and instruct other operations staff in all aspects of hydro distribution
